This website design was the result of a collaboration project with designer Nathan Cole. All the credit for the great logo and sidebar pattern go to Nathan; I was responsible for the layout design and implementation. I designed the site using a minimal 130px, 6 column grid to give a sense of structure and clarity to the content and utilized jQuery to create the elegant portfolio gallery. Have you ever seen the giant mural banners hanging on the buildings all over the City of Louisville depicting people such as Muhammad Ali, Pat Day, Diane Sawyer, and others? You can thank Hometown Heroes, a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading the word about extraordinary people from Louisville, KY.

I was chosen to design and build this website for them in effort to help them share more information on their project to a wider audience. I went for a minimalist, grid based approach so the images and information could stand on their own in a clear, structural way. The newest features available to modern web browsers such as webkit transition affects and box shadows were utilized to create a fast, very responsive, beautiful design. The client for this project, Quality Auto Glass, was looking to expand its presence onto the web but they didn’t have a lot of content or a huge budget to work with. To solve this dilemma, I decided create a simple, yet elegant website that would save on development time and still do a great job at representing the company. Where many sites have sprawling menus taking you to countless pages, I instead combined the home, contact and services pages into one. I also utilized some of the latest CSS properties such as box-shadow, text-shadow, and rounded corners to cut back on photoshop production time and to increase page loading speeds. The result was a beautiful website that both the client and I were very please with.

The Swap A Shop website was designed for Village Solutions to create a place for people to share the top, most unique shops and shopping destinations from around the world. It will allow users to submit shops they have found and then vote on which ones are their favorites. The site will also integrate social networking by allowing users to become friends with one another, start groups, message each other and more. Swap A Shop is still under development but a landing page is going up soon that will allow users to sign up for updates so they can keep track of what is going on.

I have a couple of main creative projects going on right now and I’m planning on doing more so I figured that I needed a central place to gather everything. To fill this need, I designed the above website at PatrickHill.net. Because it has a simple purpose, I wanted to create a very clean, minimalistic design that was very clear and straight forward. In addition to working as a jumping point to my various websites, I am planning on adding a blog called Thought Factory to the website that will share random ideas and thoughts I come up with. Kentucky Scenic is a website idea that has been rolling around in my head for a while and I just finished designing it last week. I will be using it to share photography and information on outdoor scenery and destinations across Kentucky.

This design like the others I have done, started out in my sketch book and the only thing I knew as I began was that I wanted to have a dark color scheme because I felt that darker, subdued colors would allow for the photography to stand out more. I also wanted to some how include blue grass and landscapes into the design and so I ended up using a repeating photo a field I had taken and combined it with a simple illustration of mountains, trees and hills. I also spent a lot of time thinking of a simple way of displaying the posts that would elegantly allow someone to quickly and easily see where new ones started. The result was the combination of an offset date that stood out prominently and a continuous left border for the post that guides the eye down the main content.

The owners of Woodlawn Gardens on the Maywood Golf Course in Bardstown, Ky were having trouble selling one of their patio homes so I was hired to create a website showcasing the home for potential buyers. I used both my photography and web design skills to create the website.
