Indigo Deep Sea Exploration

This student branding project was designed for Indigo, a company focusing on new technology and scientific research in deep sea exploration. Because of the unique, ground breaking scientific nature of Indigo, the brand has a modern design aesthetic with a slight futuristic feel. Color is used in a minimal way as is the application of the graphics and design elements to create an overall streamlined, sleek feel.

The logo captures the very nature of the company's core purpose by contrasting the height of mountains with the depths of the mostly unexplored oceans of the world. To reinforce the scientific nature of the company, the emblem has a very mathematic, symmetrical structure to it. The whole mark has its foundation on a perfect circle that has been divided into quarters. The angles used throughout the mark are divisions of the resulting right angle from that division (90 / 3 = 30, 90 / 2 = 45). The 30 degree angle that makes up the peaks and valley of the emblem can also be separated from the the mark and used as an auxiliary visual element. It can be cropped, faded, and split for different uses as long as it retains the overall original shape as it appears in the emblem.

An iPhone app concept was also created in conjunction with the overall branding. The main idea behind it was to create a unique way for both non-scienctist and the greater scientific community to interact with indigo and follow along on their explorations. Users would be able to track current and past expeditions as the indigo crafts navigate down. They could then click on waypoints at specific depths to view information and photos.

Note: The company and submarine design are based off of the DOER Marine Exploration Company and the apparel used in the mock-ups came from Aether and Dezeen.
